OverviewThe Technical Program Engineer role is responsible for facilitating Architectural Governance & Tooling Standards and guiding an enterprise‑wide architectural governance group focused on standardizing tooling and technology choices across platform engineering teams. This role ensures consistent, scalable, and secure technical standards by coordinating decision‑making processes, developing technical documentation, and driving end‑to‑end delivery of standards.
This individual should have strong software development expertise which enables effective technical and architectural governance facilitation, driving alignment among engineering, architecture, and product leadership teams.
Key Responsibilities Governance Leadership- Facilitate and lead the Architectural Governance Group in decisioning Architecture and Tooling solutions that apply across the enterprise.
- Ensure productive, timebound, and outcome‑oriented discussions.
- Drive alignment on standardized tooling, architectural patterns, and technology decisions across platform and product engineering teams.
- Serve as the accountable owner for automating governance workflows, meeting cadences, decision tracking, and documentation repositories.
- Manage governance‑related initiatives from proposal through approval, documentation, implementation, and adoption.
- Build and maintain timelines, milestones, and status reporting for architectural standardization efforts.
- Identify risks, dependencies, and cross‑team impacts to ensure smooth decision‑making and delivery.
- Create and maintain clear, high‑quality technical and architectural documentation, including:
- Architectural Decision Records (ADRs)
- Technical standards and guidelines
- Governance policies and process documentation
- Tooling evaluation summaries and recommendations
- Architecture diagrams
- Present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences in engineering, security, architecture, and product leadership.
- Git‑based, docs‑as‑code workflows for creating and reviewing documentation.
- Coordinate with engineering, architecture, Dev Ops, SRE, and security teams and business segment stakeholders to ensure decisions reflect real‑world needs and constraints.
- Partner with leaders to drive adoption of approved standards and tooling across the organization.
- Support the creation and operation of domain‑specific working groups as needed.
- Evaluate and refine governance processes to improve clarity, decision velocity, and team engagement.
- Reduce toil in workflow and processes through use of agentic workflows.
- Maintain documentation templates, workflows, and governance best practices.
- Monitor industry trends in platform engineering, SaaS architectures, and enterprise tooling to inform future standards.
- 5–8 years of experience in technical project management, platform engineering, software architecture, software development or related technical leadership roles.
- Experience working in platform engineering environments building SaaS or cloud‑native solutions
. - Strong understanding of tooling and patterns common to modern platform engineering, including CI/CD, infrastructure provisioning, observability, security tooling, and cloud services.
- Proven ability to create technical documentation, decision records, architecture summaries, and governance materials
. - Excellent facilitation skills—able to guide groups toward decisions, manage conflict, and drive consensus.
