Data Engineering Team Lead
Contract-to-hire position, working hybrid in Charlotte, NC (2-3 days a week). The Data Engineering Team Lead will support the personal lines data team, focusing on a major front‑end replacement project involving new data feeds. The role includes 30% hands‑on, 30% design/guidance, and 30‑40% coaching and delivery management.
Responsibilities- Lead a high‑performing team in the delivery of key components and business deliverables
- Ensure on‑time successful delivery and the technical and architectural quality of solutions
- Collaborate with individuals from all areas of the business and IT to develop accurate requirements and design architectural solutions
- Resolve and, if needed, elevate technical and project delivery issues
- Drive process improvements within the team and across the department to improve efficiency and quality
- Work directly with the architecture group to coordinate new design patterns and technology
- Assist in prioritizing new development projects, enhancements for existing systems, and system maintenance requests
- Act as a key contributor in planning and estimation of projects
- Support development of talent through coaching and mentoring team members
- Ensure design, code, and test‑plan reviews are conducted as appropriate
- College degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems preferred
- 7+ years of experience leading and/or hands‑on development of Data Warehouse/Data Lakes, Data integration or Data Engineering projects
- Experience with analytical platforms such as Power BI, Azure ML
- Experience with ETL/ELT tools (Databricks)
- Experience with Data Ops or other automation frameworks
- Strong Azure and/or AWS Data Bricks, PySpark, SQL, and data modeling concepts
- Proficient in modern data architecture; prior ETL experience helpful
- Proven history of owning and taking accountability for leading others to complete complex deliverables
- Excellent communication skills
- Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
- SAFe Agile work experience or similar Agile process
- Experience working within Azure ecosystem
- Property Casualty Insurance experience highly desired
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
