Data Network Engineer

Data Network Engineer | Hybrid in Charlotte, NC | 12-month Contract (annual renewal)

Optomi, in partnership with an energy and utilities organization, is seeking experienced Network Engineer to join their team in Charlotte, NC! This is a hybrid role and is responsible for the design, implementation, testing, documentation, and continuous improvement of complex enterprise data network solutions. The position focuses heavily on Cisco-based environments and requires strong collaboration across IT teams to deliver reliable, cost-effective, and scalable network services aligned with business needs.

• Designing and improving large-scale enterprise network solutions
• Hands-on work with Cisco routing, switching, and IOS configurations
• End-to-end ownership of network design, implementation, documentation, and optimization
• Exposure to both private and public WAN circuits and enterprise-wide networking initiatives

• 5–7 years of experience in Information Technology, with at least 5 years designing and supporting Cisco Systems products
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, and core networking fundamentals
• Hands‑on experience with Cisco routers and switches, Cisco IOS, and enterprise network infrastructure
• Experience with technologies including TCP/IP, Layer 3 Switching, RIP, OSPF, EIGRP, GRE, HSRP, GLBP, IPSEC, SSL, AAA, and SNMP
• Experience working with Cisco ACS, wireless controllers and access points, and Cisco VPN concentrators
• Ability to work productively with little direct supervision
• Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Experience coordinating with multiple teams, vendors, and stakeholders simultaneously
• Cisco certifications CCNA or CCDA desired; CCNP, CCDP, or CCIE preferred

• Plan, design, test, implement, and continuously improve enterprise network solutions
• Configure Cisco IOS and implement new network hardware devices, including routers and switches
• Maintain accurate network diagrams, device configurations, and documentation
• Prepare engineering job packages including parts lists, equipment details, drawings, and network diagrams
• Ensure cost-effective network designs that meet business requirements while delivering reliable service
• Prepare and submit cost estimates for planned network installations when required
• Maintain awareness of current networking technologies and available facilities
• Procure, turn up, and troubleshoot both private and public WAN circuits
• Work across the IT organization to provide end-to-end network solutions to internal customers
