Regulatory Compliance Specialist
Overview
This role plays a critical hands-on role in administering, auditing, and continuously improving our benefits programs (with a strong focus on leave of absence) while ensuring compliance across a broad range of benefits-related regulations. The ideal candidate brings deep functional expertise, strong judgment, and a passion for delivering an excellent employee experience in complex, regulated environments. This role works alongside Talent COEs, Legal, Payroll, and external vendors.
WhatYou'll Do
- Administer and oversee all leave of absence programs, including FMLA, state and local PFML, short- and long-term disability, military leave, and company-sponsored leaves
- Serve as the subject matter expert on leave eligibility, policy interpretation, coordination of benefits, and return-to-work practices
- Partner with third-party leave administrators to ensure accurate case management, timely communication, and SLA adherence
- Assist and provide guidance with benefits enrollment events including:
New Hire, Life Events, and Annual Open Enrollment; inclusive of new hire benefit orientation - Manage benefits inbox by responding to teammate inquiries
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local benefits regulations (e.g., ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA, FMLA, state leave laws)
- Support benefits audits, filings, and reporting in partnership with Legal, Payroll, and external consultants
- Maintain plan documents, policies, notices, and employee-facing communications
- Monitor regulatory changes impacting benefits and leave programs and support implementation as needed
- Support key benefits activities such as open enrollment, vendor renewals, and employee education as needed
- Develop and maintain SOPs, job aids, and process documentation
- Partner with vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve issues and improve service delivery
- Minimum 5 years of progressive benefits experience, with strong hands-on ownership of leave of absence programs
- In-depth working knowledge of FMLA and multi-state leave requirements
- Experience partnering with third-party leave administrators
- Solid understanding of benefits compliance requirements and risk mitigation
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage complex, sensitive cases
- Experience working in an HRIS environment (Workday preferred)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex topics clearly and empathetically
