Job SummaryThe CT Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards, operating CT scanners and associated equipment.
Major Responsibilities- Examine orders and verify requests for each assigned patient; refer and question orders to the radiologist before performing exam; contact ordering provider when discrepancies occur.
- Identify patients (using two identifiers) and assist patients while offering a brief explanation of the procedures; prepare patients for procedure with documentation.
- Interview patients for a complete medical history; review EMR and record data.
- Assume responsibility for the exam from beginning to completion of documented results.
- Prepare and administer IV contrast according to departmental protocols; record contrast type and amount when requested.
- Evaluate image quality; consult with radiologist if needed; recognize abnormal anatomy and process additional images or measurements.
- Perform basic patient care functions; inform nursing personnel of changes; initiate life support measures when necessary; assist in code blue procedures.
- Assist radiologist/PA during invasive procedures; practice proper sterile technique; perform invasive procedures per infection control policies.
- Obtain medication or contrast material as directed by licensed practitioner.
- Advise radiation safety for self, employees, patients, and family; follow radiation safety standards.
- Report equipment malfunctions to department director/manager and clinical engineering.
- Adhere to hospital fire and safety procedures; attend all in‑service classes and safety modules.
- Maintain accurate and timely work during crises; rotate shifts, including call, holidays, and weekends; adhere to attendance policy.
- Operate radiology computer system to enter orders and charge procedures; document contrast administration in MAR.
- Maintain assigned work area neat, stocked, and clean.
- Assist other medical personnel, such as anesthesia, during CT scans.
Job Requirements
- Graduate of ARRT recognized institution.
- ARRT certification in Radiography, or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine and advanced registry from ARRT in CT scanning within one year of hire; current CPR certification.
Requires moderate to heavy lifting and moving of patients, equipment, and supplies. Requires standing, walking, and sitting. May involve stretching, bending, twisting, kneeling; exposure to moving equipment and hard surfaces; use radiation safety guidelines to prevent exposure to ionizing radiation.
