Reporting to the Senior Manager of Medical OperationsThe LPHMS serves in a dual capacity as a field‑deployable senior medical provider and as the administrative lead responsible for medical readiness, credentialing, sustainment, and oversight of the Prehospital Medical Specialist (PHMS) cohort. The LPHMS operates under the Senior Manager of Medical Operations and works closely with Field Response Team (FRT) leadership to ensure PHMS personnel meet all clinical, operational, regulatory, and deployment requirements.
Thisrole ensures GSD maintains a highly trained, compliant, and ready prehospital medical workforce capable of supporting disaster response and capacity‑strengthening missions.
The LPHMS also directly deploys and participates in field medical operations, providing advanced medical care, operational guidance, and leadership during both domestic and international missions.
This position operates across land‑based and maritime environments and collaborates closely with the Operations and Plans Department, Maritime Access Team, Field Response Team, and external partners such as Atrium Health.

- Oversee credentialing, licensing, certification, and recertification requirements for all PHMS personnel;
- Maintain and manage the medical readiness tracking system, ensuring all PHMS maintain current clinical currencies and competencies;
- Develop and coordinate sustainment training, clinical rotations, hospital privileges (if applicable), and continuing education for PHMS staff;
- Lead onboarding, training, and integration processes for new PHMS personnel;
- Conduct performance evaluations (from a medical perspective), provide coaching and mentorship, and support professional development for PHMS members;
- Manage scheduling, deployment rosters, surge staffing, and operational readiness for the PHMS cohort;
- Ensure adherence to medical documentation standards, quality assurance/quality improvement (QA/QI) processes, and data integrity;
- Support development, review, and implementation of medical SOPs, treatment guidelines, protocols, and clinical governance frameworks;
- Serve as primary liaison between the Medical Department and FRT Team Leads for coordination of staffing, readiness, and operational needs;
- Support the evaluation of medical program effectiveness, participate in strategic planning, and recommend improvements to organizational medical readiness;
- Assist with medical administrative tasks including medical mission package development, protocol updates, and compliance monitoring;
- Deliver high‑quality medical care during disaster response operations, maritime access missions, and resilience‑based engagements;
- Act as a senior medical provider for Field Response Teams and Maritime Access Teams, providing advanced medical oversight and decision‑making;
- Conduct rapid health needs assessments and medical risk/threat assessments both pre‑deployment and in real time;
- Provide expert medical consultation to GSD leadership, team leads, and operational partners;
- Support internal team health and safety via direct medical care, preventive health guidance, and operational medical planning;
- Participate in After Action Reviews (AARs), contribute to MEAL assessments, and ensure lessons learned are incorporated into medical practice;
- Support local healthcare systems and partners through IFC/EOC integration, triage operations, surge support, and medical management activities;
