Schedule Details/Additional Information:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
This position is Sign-on Bonus eligible. Based on eligibility.
Pay Range
$21.45 - $32.20
Major Responsibilities- Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice, follows all policies and procedures, and maintains training and competency based on area of specialty when providing patient care.
- Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social drivers of health, etc.).
- Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
- Performs lab related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking. Point of Care testing (POCT) per standing order/provider order. Completes CLIA approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing in adherence to CLIA standards.
- Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
- Performs other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
- Demonstrates effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation.
- Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately. Ensures equipment and supplies are in working order, and areas are appropriately stocked.
- May assist with training and onboarding of other teammates.
- May serve as a role champion or on a committee.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Age-specific needs are addressed per department policies and procedures.
Job Requirements
- Education – High School Diploma or GED required. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or military clinical training per DD214 in lieu of formal program, or EMT.
Experience
- Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant.
Certification / License
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required in some divisions (AHA), obtained within specified timelines where applicable.
- Certified or registered as a CMA or RMA by recognized national organizations (AAMA, NHA, NCCT, AMT, NRMA, NAHP, NCMA, CCMA, NCMA, etc.).
- Wake Forest, Floyd & Navicent, and IL/WI divisions include additional program-specific requirements where noted.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within Medical Assistant scope after demonstrated competency.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport with patients, team members, and physicians.
- Proficient computer skills including EMR systems, keyboarding, and Windows navigation.
- Customer service skills to support a positive patient experience.
- Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance. For lifts over 35 pounds or when patient cannot assist, use patient handling equipment with another team member when available.
- Unique patient lifting scenarios will be assessed case-by-case.
- Functional speech, vision, hearing, and fine-hand manipulation skills required.
- Exposure to hazards (mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood and body fluids). Protective clothing/equipment may be required.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
