GEM Investments is a leading Outsourced Chief Investment Office (OCIO) for endowments, foundations, sovereigns, families, and other long-term investors to protect and grow multi-generational capital. Founded in 2007 by former CIO at Duke University Management Company (DUMAC), GEM delivers a sophisticated, endowment- style investment program. Instead of solely relying on conventional asset types in a standard portfolio structure, they focus on broad diversification across asset classes with allocations to alternatives such as private equity, venture capital, hedge funds and real estate.
They combine disciplined portfolio management with sound governance and a boutique mindset integrating with their clients’ organizations as part of their in-house teams.
The firm manages $12B+ in AUM and has specialized in delivering the highest quality service and support to their clients, enabling them to achieve their long-term investment goals. Their sticky relationships have led to an average client relationship tenure of ~8 years. They are employee-owned and independent, structurally aligned with their client’s long-term objectives.
Culture: The firm fosters a highly collaborative and collegial culture, with lean teams that offer significant exposure to senior leadership, an “open-door policy,” and meaningful responsibility and autonomy. Though founded in 2007, the firm is in an exciting growth phase fostering a working environment that caters to those who are naturally driven and intellectually curious. The Client Portfolio Mgmt. team is known to be the most outgoing and energetic with regular happy hours, team dinners, pickleball tournaments, laser tag, and other bonding events throughout the year.
Work-life balance is strong, with minimal weekend work and a lot of predictability and visibility into your workload.
Group & Role: The Client Portfolio Mgmt. team focuses on deeply understanding client needs and objectives.
