Verification Specialist

Overview

This position is responsible for processing FAFSA applications selected for additional review by the U.S. Department of Education. The role focuses on verifying documentation and identifying, assessing, and resolving conflicting information to ensure accuracy and compliance with federal regulations. The role will focus on the review and clearance of federal C-Codes (C-Flags) and other eligibility-related requirements. This position collects and reviews financial aid documentation for completeness, accuracy, and consistency, including FAFSA data, federal tax returns, financial aid transcripts, citizenship, veteran status, loan defaults, and other documents.

Minimum Education /Experience

Graduation from high school and one year of related office experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other Work Responsibilities
  • The incumbent provides assistance and information to students and parents regarding federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs and supports the correction and updating of financial aid records during the application process.
  • This position works closely with students and parents to obtain required documentation, analyze information, identify errors or discrepancies, and make appropriate corrections to ensure aid eligibility and compliance.
Departmental

Preferred Experience , Skills, Training/Education
  • Previous experience working in Financial Aid including knowledge of the Federal Financial Aid Verification and C-Flag policies.
  • Experience working in systems such as Banner, CRM Systems, and Digital Data Storage such as Perceptive Content or Soft Docs.
  • Experience with Microsoft and Google Suite;
    Intermediate skills preferred
  • Attention to detail and demonstrated problem solving abilities, and independently producing work that is accurate with very few errors
  • Student-centered focus, with excellent communication skills; ability to collaborate in a team environment
Necessary Licenses or Certifications Work Location

Work Schedule

8:00 am - 5:00 pm;
Monday - Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary. This position may be eligible for a telework schedule once onboarding into position is complete and with supervisor approval.
