OverviewSenior‑level officer and technical accounting subject matter expert responsible for communicating and ensuring the enterprise’s proper understanding and appropriate implementation of accounting policies and practices in accordance with GAAP and related internal controls.
Responsibilities- Serve as an effective business partner and expert advisor to Executive officers, Finance organization and senior leaders to achieve financial reporting that complies with GAAP and is transparent and sustainable.
- Research appropriate accounting treatment and provide expert advice for complex transactions or financial matters, including acquisitions, divestitures, credit losses, hedge accounting and variable interests.
- Monitor the standard‑setting process of FASB, SEC, FDIC and FRB, communicate impacts to senior leaders, and oversee implementation of new accounting or reporting requirements.
- Prepare or revise accounting policies and procedures to reflect new pronouncements or guidance and improve clarity.
- Provide counsel to senior leaders on complex accounting and external reporting issues, and respond to inquiries from auditors, regulators and others.
- Ensure processes and controls comply with GAAP, prevent deficiencies in internal control over financial reporting, and support Risk Management Organization in identifying, measuring and mitigating GAAP risk.
- Oversee the preparation and review of SEC Forms 10‑K and 10‑Q for compliance with GAAP, including disclosure checklists, and respond to relevant comments in SEC comment letters.
- Collaborate with the Managing Director of Accounting Policy to establish group processes, procedures and strategies, and support the Managing Director in reviewing the work of the Directors of Technical Accounting and other team members.
- Represent Truist in banking industry organizations, participate in periodic meetings and committees, and comment on proposed new accounting standards and regulatory reporting rule making as applicable.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent education and related training.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation and strong technical accounting knowledge.
- Fifteen years of relevant accounting or accounting policy experience and twelve years of leadership and supervisory experience.
- Strong leadership abilities, high integrity, intellectual clarity and a passion for excellence.
- Strong personal and professional ethics with impeccable integrity.
- High energy level and strong work ethic to meet the demands of a fast paced, goal driven environment.
- Self‑motivated with the ability to work without supervision and manage multiple resources, priorities and projects.
- Excellent technical, research, communication, presentation, critical, conceptual, problem‑solving and analytical skills and interpersonal skills across internal and external levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software products, with emphasis on spreadsheet, word processing and database software.
- Master’s or advanced degree in Business or Accounting.
- Prior experience working for a large, SEC‑registered financial institution or senior manager‑level public accountant with extensive bank experience.
