Institutional Investment Operations Specialist — Hybrid – Charlotte, NC

Calculated Hire is in search of an Institutional Investment Operations Specialist for a Fortune 100 Financial Services company. This role sits within Corporate Investment Banking Operations, supporting the DTC Settlement Operations team and focusing on trade settlement, fail control, and buy-in risk management across domestic and international markets.
Responsibilities- Support daily DTC settlement and fail control processing across all DTC-eligible product types in domestic markets.
- Monitor internal and external settlement systems, with a focus on trade clearance, exception management, and operational risk.
- Act as a liaison between Settlements and internal and external partners including Middle Office, Sales, Securities Finance, Compliance, Repo/Funding desks, counter parties, and vendors.
- Monitor, manage, and act on regulatory buy-in processes including Rule 204, Reg T, and MSRB requirements.
- Reduce firm risk by leveraging buy-in processes to remediate fail obligations and segregation deficits.
- Monitor CNS obligations and liabilities and partner with Securities Lending to resolve short positions and fails to receive.
- Manage buy-in notices through Smart/TRACK and communicate directly with counterparts to resolve open obligations.
- Provide coverage for international buy-in obligations across global markets.
- Maintain and adhere to firm policies and procedures related to street buy-in practices.
- Participate in and lead projects or industry-related initiatives, ensuring timely and accurate execution.
- Strong understanding of institutional trade settlement and buy-in processes.
- Experience monitoring and mitigating operational risk within securities operations.
- Advanced attention to detail with the ability to manage high volumes and time-sensitive obligations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, SUMIFs).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration across multiple teams.
- 2+ years of Institutional Investment Operations experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, or education.
- 2+ years of experience in the securities industry with emphasis on buy-ins and international trade settlement.
- Working knowledge of DTCC Smart/TRACK, OW, Settlement Web, and FINRA.
- Experience with Broadridge systems including GLOSS, Impact, and BPS.
- Knowledge of buy-in rules for domestic markets (DTC, Fed, physical clearance).
- Exposure to international buy-in rules (Euroclear, Clearstream, CREST, and local markets).
- Working knowledge of Prime Broker Operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field.
- Basic PowerPoint skills for supporting senior management presentations.
- Monday–Friday schedule with shifts between 6:00am–6:00pm.
- Hybrid work model with on-site requirements in Charlotte, NC.
- Flexibility to work additional hours as business needs require.
