As the Actuarial Valuation Manager – Life & Annuity, you will lead and coordinate actuarial valuation, forecasting, and financial reporting processes for life and annuity product portfolios. You will apply advanced actuarial techniques, exercise sound judgment under regulatory and accounting frameworks, and manage a team of actuarial analysts to deliver timely and accurate actuarial results. This role bridges technical actuarial work with managerial leadership, ensuring valuation outputs support corporate planning, regulatory filings, and strategic decision-making.
You will work closely with finance, risk management, product development, and executive stakeholders to interpret assumptions, assess reserve adequacy, and communicate analytical insights. The role emphasizes technical excellence, process improvement, and team development.
ResponsibilitiesTechnical & Actuarial Valuation
- Lead the valuation and forecasting of life and annuity reserves using actuarial modeling platforms (e.g., Moody’s AXIS) across US GAAP (including LDTI) and statutory bases.
- Oversee preparation of actuarial analyses, model runs, reserve reconciliations, and validation efforts; ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with actuarial standards of practice.
- Review and recommend assumption changes; monitor experience trends and emerging risks.
Leadership & Team Development
- Supervise, coach, and develop a team of actuarial professionals, setting performance expectations, conducting reviews, and promoting professional growth.
- Allocate team resources effectively to meet valuation deadlines, reporting timelines, and operational goals.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with finance and accounting to support reserve reporting, quarterly/annual filings, and strategic forecasts.
- Coordinate with product, risk, and compliance stakeholders to align valuation methodologies with business strategies and regulatory requirements.
Process Improvement & Governance
- Identify opportunities to streamline actuarial processes, enhance modeling efficiency and strengthen internal controls.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory standards (e.g., actuarial guidelines, state insurance regulations).
Communication & Reporting
- Prepare and present technical analyses and recommendations to senior management and cross-functional partners.
- Support regulatory responses and actuarial disclosure requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, finance, or related quantitative field.
- ASA or FSA designation from the Society of Actuaries; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum 5–8+ years of actuarial experience in life and annuity valuation or related fields; including experience with actuarial models like AXIS or equivalent tools.
- Proven leadership experience guiding actuarial teams, project delivery, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Strong knowledge of actuarial standards, regulatory frameworks, and financial reporting under US GAAP and statutory accounting.
- Excellent analytical reasoning and communication skills to explain complex actuarial concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Deep experience with life and annuity products, including indexed annuities and living benefits.
- Prior experience with valuation standard frameworks (e.g., VM-22, VM-31).
- Expertise in process automation, data analysis, and actuarial workflow optimization.
- Experience interacting with regulators and external auditors.
