The Nexus Water Group team has an opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer. The role is responsible for planning, design, and construction supervision of capital and in‑house projects for water and wastewater utilities and providing engineering expertise and support for Operations as needed. The engineer will also provide project management, business analysis, and regulatory support for the operation of facilities necessary for the treatment and distribution of water and the collection, treatment, and discharge of wastewater.

5821 Fairview Rd., Charlotte, NC, 28209, US. The position is primarily based in Charlotte, NC.
- Perform project scope alternative analysis to determine the best solution in developing a business case.
- Create engineer standards, designs, and plans for water production, distribution, wastewater collections, treatment processes, and systems.
- Evaluate project proposals and utility work designs and provide stamp or seal of approval for engineering designs as the Professional Engineer.
- Exercise sound professional judgement in developing design criteria, selecting suitable processes, materials, and other aspects related to utility operations and capital project execution.
- Engage with regulatory agencies, other utility operators, and technical personnel to facilitate ongoing operations and capital project execution.
- Develop business cases for engineering projects by performing alternative analyses, including scope, cost, and schedule per best practices.
- Prepare engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Oversee multiple mid‑size or larger utility projects on an ongoing basis.
- Select and specify materials and equipment for projects.
- Determine when an external consultant engineer or contractor is required, hire, and oversee them based on capital project needs.
- Perform inspections to ensure construction follows design documents and intended design, and occasionally perform testing.
- Coordinate with Field Operations to schedule construction of engineering plans and communicate project schedule and tasks.
- Serve as project manager to lead and manage projects.
- Act as construction superintendent to ensure industrial controls are in place and procedures are executed safely and according to requirements.
- Approve change orders and cost proposals to modify parts of ongoing capital works projects in response to identified issues.
- Plan for and review updates to engineering and construction standards.
- Conduct hydraulic system analysis, including use and update of water distribution computer models.
- Conduct field inspections and troubleshoot project issues on site.
- Provide technical assistance for operations service requests.
- Respond to service requests as a technical resource and engineering subject matter expert for Business Development, Project Management, Operations, and the Business Unit.
