Day & Zimmermann Maintenance and Construction (DZMC) is here to make life easier for plant owners in the Power, Chemical, and Industrial markets. With wide-ranging capabilities and long-standing industry experience, DZMC delivers innovative solutions and seamless processes that effectively manage all aspects of the plant life cycle. Role Overview

The Director, Business Development - Nuclear Infrastructure & New Build is responsible for originating, shaping, and closing large, complex nuclear opportunities focused on new nuclear builds and nuclear infrastructure, including fuel cycle capabilities such as uranium enrichment, fuel fabrication, and long-lead nuclear facilities.

This role is not transactional sales. It requires the ability to operate credibly at the executive, developer, OEM, and government-adjacent level, influence project definition before formal procurement, and structure alliances that enable delivery of first-of-a-kind (FOAK) and capital-intensive nuclear projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Nuclear Market Development (40-50%)
    • Develop and maintain trusted executive-level relationships with utility leadership, developers, OEMs, fuel cycle providers, and government stakeholders (e.g., CNO, VP Nuclear, program executives).
    • Identify and shape new nuclear build and infrastructure opportunities prior to RFP issuance, influencing scope, delivery model, and risk allocation.
    • Position Day & Zimmermann as a strategic partner in nuclear infrastructure, not simply a services provider.
  • Opportunity Shaping & Deal Leadership (20-25%)
    • Lead opportunity qualification, capture strategy, and commercial positioning for large-capex, long-cycle nuclear projects.
    • Structure and negotiate strategic alliances, joint pursuits, and teaming agreements with OEMs, developers, and supply-chain partners.
    • Take a lead role in commercial negotiations, including pricing strategy, risk-sharing models, and long-term agreements.
  • Nuclear Infrastructure & Fuel Cycle Focus (15-20%)
    • Drive business development efforts related to new nuclear builds (SMRs, Gen III+/Gen IV, FOAK projects).
    • Nuclear fuel cycle and infrastructure (enrichment, fabrication, conversion, storage).
    • Long-lead nuclear facilities and strategic supply-chain investments.
    • Maintain a working understanding of regulatory, geopolitical, and policy drivers affecting nuclear infrastructure markets.
  • Internal Alignment & Execution Support (10-15%)
    • Partner with operations, engineering, and project delivery teams to ensure pursuits are executable and aligned with company capabilities.
    • Remove internal roadblocks, manage risk escalation, and support successful contract execution post-award.
    • Provide market insight to leadership to inform investment, capability development, and strategic direction.
Required Qualifications

Experience

  • 9-12+ years of progressive business development or strategic commercial experience in the nuclear industry or adjacent regulated infrastructure sectors.
  • Demonstrated success with long-cycle, high-value ($15M+ annual targets) sales or deal leadership.
  • Direct involvement in new nuclear build, nuclear infrastructure, fuel cycle, or FOAK projects.
  • Proven ability to sell without reliance on transactional RFPs.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or related field (10-15 years relevant experience as an alternate).
  • Advanced degree preferred but not required.

In compliance with this state's pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $152,000 min - $228,000 max. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
