Role descriptionArcadis is looking for an Area Manager and Business Growth Leader based in western North Carolina. This key leadership role will be responsible for leading strategy implementation to drive organic growth across our integrated water business, managing a regionally focused portfolio of municipal water, wastewater, and stormwater projects.
Role accountabilitiesAs the Area Manager and Business Growth Leader, you will report directly to the Southeast Resilience Water Area Leader and lead our established, high‑performing team to execute our existing project backlog and drive strategy for continued growth across the Southeast, especially in western North Carolina. You will coordinate with other Area Managers and cross‑functional teams, including Client Account Leads, Project Managers, Practice Directors, Corporate Services, and staff in other geographies and business units.
Overseeing people‑management activities—hiring, onboarding, staff development, performance management, and terminations—is part of the role.
The role involves leading the water business growth strategy in western North Carolina, supporting the implementation of the business plan, expanding client relationships strategically, and collaborating across Arcadis business units to identify opportunities and foster growth. You will provide operational leadership, ensuring achievement of area operational goals for revenue, profit, resource engagement, and quality standards. Key responsibilities include leading a high‑performing team, negotiating with clients and partners, overseeing design and construction projects, providing technical assistance on design‑build opportunities, and managing a travel requirement of up to 30%.
Qualifications& Experience
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 15 years’ experience in water, wastewater, or stormwater project management, design management, business operations, or related fields.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
- P.E. License.
- Strong client relationship skills with a proven track record of delivering engineering projects that meet or exceed client expectations.
- Strong project management experience on municipal water, wastewater, or stormwater projects of various sizes.
- Strong people‑management and mentoring skills.
- Excellent technical engineering skills with clear and concise written and oral communication.
- Master’s in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering or related professional degree such as an MBA or MPA.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- 20 years’ experience in water/wastewater/stormwater project management, design management, business operations, or related fields.

We provide nine paid holidays and 20 days PTO per year, a company‑bonus program, and a salary range of $140,000 to $210,000 per year.
