Position Overview:
As a GIS Specialist III at JSI, you will lead GIS efforts for large-scale fiber projects, from strategic planning to lifecycle management. This senior role involves collaboration with managers, developers, and engineering teams to implement innovative GIS solutions and mentor junior staff. You’ll be instrumental in shaping GIS processes across departments.
Key Responsibilities- Lead GIS efforts for large-scale fiber projects, overseeing strategic planning, design, permitting, construction, and lifecycle management.
- Design and implement advanced geoprocessing tools, dashboards, and workflows that optimize efficiency, ensure accurate spatial analysis, and integrate fiber engineering principles.
- Collaborate with OSP Management, engineering teams, and clients to resolve complex, high-impact GIS challenges under time-sensitive conditions.
- Mentor GIS Specialist I and II staff, and support region-wide training initiatives.
- Oversee and enforce rigorous QC/QA protocols across GIS deliverables, ensuring geometric accuracy, data integrity, and compliance with organizational standards.
- Coordinate cross-departmental GIS initiatives, introducing innovative solutions and fostering integration between engineering, implementation, and management teams.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in GIS, Geo Design, Engineering, or a related field.
- 6+ years of GIS experience (Professional GIS certifications and demonstrated mastery of all required qualifications), including 3+ years in telecom or utility OSP.
- Master’s degree in GIS or Engineering, and 8+ years of GIS experience with 5+ years in the OSP sector preferred.
- Experience with AI frameworks for geospatial solutions and geodatabase design.
- Proficiency in scripting (Python, SQL), integrating GIS with external asset management systems, and managing spatial data in large relational databases.
- Mastery of at least one GIS ecosystem (Esri, open source).
- Proven leadership, organizational, and time-management skills in GIS-driven projects.
