Position Overview

The Process & Agricultural Engineer is responsible for selecting, validating, and optimizing equipment and processes used in the harvesting and processing of specialty crops. This role partners closely with farm operators, agronomy teams, manufacturing, and new product development to improve yield, reduce cost per acre, enhance product quality, and support the introduction of new food processing capabilities. This position is onsite in the Charlotte, NC metro.

This position requires a strong blend of hands-on agricultural experience, mechanical aptitude, and process engineering expertise, with significant time spent in the field and at production facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, select, and optimize agricultural equipment to maximize yield, improve product quality, and reduce cost per acre across specialty crops
  • Collaborate with agronomy teams, farm partners, and third-party vendors to conduct field trials, validate performance, and refine equipment design
  • Qualify equipment and processes used for harvesting, cleaning, sorting, and preparing specialty crops
  • Travel extensively to farms to develop a deep understanding of current agricultural practices and identify improvement opportunities
Process Engineering Responsibilities
  • Participate in capital equipment projects from conceptual design through commissioning and production ramp-up
  • Provide technical support to Production, Maintenance, and Quality teams to troubleshoot and resolve processing line issues
  • Lead investigations into complex processing challenges that require innovative engineering solutions
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to introduce new products, enhance quality, improve food safety, and increase production capacity or capability
  • Develop and implement operating procedures for new food processing equipment
  • Create and deliver training programs for equipment operators to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent operation
Qualifications
  • Bachelor
    39;s degree in Agricultural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Food Engineering, or a related discipline; master
    39;s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in a similar engineering role
  • Hands-on farm experience strongly preferred
