Position: Mechanical Estimator – Charlotte / Wendell, NC

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Mechanical Estimator to support commercial mechanical projects based out of either Charlotte or Wendell, North Carolina. This role is responsible for developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for mechanical systems, including HVAC piping, ductwork, and commercial plumbing systems, and plays a key role in preconstruction and bid development efforts.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and project documents to develop accurate mechanical cost estimates
  • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs for HVAC piping, ductwork, and commercial plumbing systems
  • Solicit, review, and evaluate pricing from subcontractors and material suppliers
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and project stakeholders to clarify project scope and requirements
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and provide value engineering recommendations
  • Prepare bid proposals, budgets, and tender submissions in accordance with project requirements
  • Maintain and update historical cost data for use in future estimates
  • Attend project meetings and site visits as required
  • Stay current with industry standards, applicable codes, and pricing trends
  • Ensure all estimates comply with internal standards, policies, and established deadlines
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support estimating and preconstruction efforts
Qualifications
  • Five or more years of experience in mechanical estimating
  • Proficiency with Trimble Auto Bid and Bluebeam
  • Experience with Quickpen Design software preferred
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including HVAC piping, ductwork, and commercial plumbing
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; working knowledge of Microsoft Word and internet-based software
  • Strong cost reasoning, quantity validation, and bid analysis skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and project documentation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare estimates and present information to internal teams and stakeholders
