Position Overview

We are seeking an accomplished Healthcare & Institutional Lead to spearhead the planning, design, permitting, and delivery of complex site/civil projects across the Charlotte region and greater Carolina's market
. This senior civil engineering leadership role blends technical expertise, strategic vision, and client engagement to expand our presence in healthcare and other institutional sectors
, while ensuring consistent excellence in project execution. The Healthcare & Institutional Lead will serve as a trusted advisor to clients, a mentor to staff, and a visible representative of the firm within the Charlotte healthcare and institutional development community.

In this role, you will lead projects including medical office buildings
, patient care facilities
, hospital campus expansions
, central energy plants
, and supporting utility and civil infrastructure
. In addition, you will guide site/civil delivery for university campus development
, K–12 facilities
, public‑sector institutions
, and other mission‑driven environments where reliability, resiliency, and stakeholder coordination are critical. Success requires strong command of technical design and regulatory processes, paired with the ability to anticipate client needs, manage complex project teams, and deliver predictable outcomes.

A critical component of this role is the ability to partner seamlessly with architects and multidisciplinary design teams. The ideal candidate brings an established track record of collaborating with architectural firms from concept planning through construction, understanding how site and civil decisions influence building design, cost, schedule, and approval pathways. Strong relationships with architects—and the ability to build new ones—will be essential for driving pursuits, expanding opportunities, and delivering high‑quality, integrated solutions.

This leader will be skilled at aligning owners, architects, and engineering teams around shared goals, ensuring projects move efficiently through permitting and execution while maintaining exceptional client service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct healthcare‑focused civil engineering projects from concept through completion, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, healthcare codes, and client expectations.
  • Develop and implement strategies to expand the firm’s healthcare market presence, leveraging industry knowledge, market trends, and client/architect relationships.
  • Partner with architects, healthcare administrators, mechanical engineers, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver facilities that enhance patient care, operational efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, staffing, and quality control to deliver successful outcomes on time and within scope.
  • Lead an engineering team to execute healthcare projects, fostering professional growth and technical excellence.
  • Lead permitting efforts, working with local agencies and municipalities to ensure timely approvals and compliance with applicable regulations. Address agency comments and facilitate site permitting processes.
