Principal Health Planner
HDR is seeking an experienced Principal Health Planner to lead projects focused on the planning of health and research facilities, including large and complex architectural solutions. The role requires expertise in current healthcare delivery trends, patient and staff flow, emerging clinical technology, and a solid understanding of health facility operations and design standards.
Responsibilities- Lead project teams to pursue and deliver health planning projects with a primary focus on facility and departmental planning.
- Meet directly with clients, analyze their needs, and develop architectural solutions that meet those needs.
- Initiate schematic designs, prepare presentation drawings, models, and narratives.
- Coordinate all disciplines related to building design and healthcare planning, ensuring architectural, engineering, and client requirements are met.
- Represent HDR as a key member of the business development team in presentations to prospective clients.
- Guide and mentor junior designers and collaborate with engineering disciplines throughout schematic and design development phases.
- Master's degree in Architecture
- 20 years of experience in health architecture and planning
- Deep knowledge of health facility operations, life safety codes, MEP & structural requirements, and health standards (FGI, JACHO, etc.)
- Advanced credentials such as ACHA, EDAC, LEED, Lean Six Sigma
- Strong computer skills (AutoCAD, REVIT, Rhino, Blue Beam)
- Active participation in community activities that promote HDR’s vision and values
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture
- 15 years of related experience
- Minimum 7 years of project management experience
- Registered Architect in the state of practice
- Experience on large‑scale projects and leading project teams
- Experience making client presentations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project)
- Extensive knowledge of the local and regional market
- Strong leadership, mentoring, motivational, and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness to travel as required

Compensation is based on skills, experience, education, and location:
- California: $135,366 – $228,540
- Colorado: $135,366 – $193,380
- Illinois: $135,366 – $193,380
- Massachusetts: $147,672 – $210,960
- Minnesota: $123,213 – $184,590
- New Jersey: $141,519 – $202,170
- New York: $153,825 – $219,750
- Washington State: $147,672 – $210,960

Location:
