Overview
We are seeking a qualified Estimator with civil construction experience to join our Charlotte, NC team at HEI Civil. The role focuses on preparing estimates for commercial and municipal projects, subcontractor evaluations, bid planning, and coordination with the estimating team. Our emphasis is on safety, people, quality and production across roadways, bridges, water infrastructure and environmental restoration projects.
Responsibilities- Prepare estimates for commercial and municipal projects in accordance with bidding procedures.
- Perform subcontractor evaluations and coordinate weekly Estimating Team meetings.
- Review all plans, specifications, permits and owner requirements with the Estimator.
- Prepare bid proposals, including cost breakdowns, clarifications, scope and exclusions.
- Prepare project plans and drawings list; process and distribute all bid information and addenda.
- Calculate materials for subcontractors and suppliers; respond to bid-related inquiries.
- Support in estimating drawings and revisions; assist in evaluating owner and subcontractor change orders, including narratives and drawing overlays.
- Provide value engineering services and prepare subcontractor comparison sheets for evaluation.
- Prepare estimation handover reports for project managers and help define scope of work for all trades.
- Participate in post-bid procurement processes and obtain quotes; maintain positive relationships with clients and subcontractors.
- Prepare project budgets and perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project and HCSS Heavy Bid; AGTEK experience preferred.
- Strong negotiation skills and extreme attention to detail.
- Excellent customer service and the ability to communicate effectively with subcontractors.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- More than 3 years of experience in civil construction and/or major roads projects.
- Experience with underground utilities, earthwork, road reconstruction and civil construction.
- Prolonged periods of sitting; ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds (23 kg).
- Primarily office-based with variable temperatures; occasional site visits with changing weather conditions.
