Senior Electrical Engineer – HDR

Join HDR as a Senior Electrical Engineer in our Building Engineering Services team in Charlotte or Raleigh. You will lead a team to design electrical projects for diverse sectors including healthcare, water/wastewater, science and technology, federal, industrial, mission‑critical and commercial clients.

• Lead a team and design electrical projects from start to finish.
• Coordinate with clients, project managers, architects, other engineers, contractors, marketing staff and other stakeholders.
• Develop construction documents, specifications, engineering calculations.
• Perform RFI responses, shop‑drawing reviews, site investigations and construction administration.
• Provide detailed designs and coordination of facilities.
• Prepare construction documents with BIM/CAD platforms.
• Compose design specifications, review fee estimates, cost opinions and technical documents.
• Perform QA/QC review of construction documents and technical reports.
• Select equipment using vendor software and liaise with sales reps.
• Track and meet design budgets.
• Perform load calculations.
• Attend and lead design meetings.
• Provide construction administration service throughout all construction phases.

• Experience designing lighting and electrical systems for healthcare, laboratory, federal, water/wastewater, utility, mission‑critical and commercial office facilities.
• Strong communication skills, self‑motivated and organized.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
• Some travel required.
• Proficiency in BIM/Revit.
• Experience in sustainable design/LEED.
• Local candidates preferred.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an electrical emphasis.
• Minimum of 10 years of electrical building design experience (lighting/power/systems).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Extensive knowledge of building electrical power, lighting, signal design, life‑safety systems and building management systems.
• Strong computer skills:
  Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and electrical design software.
