Controls Engineer; Programming and Commissioning

Due to continued growth, our client, an internationally active, innovative plant engineering company is looking for a Controls Engineer (Programming and Commissioning) in Charlotte, NC. As the Controls Engineer (Programming & Commissioning), you will design, program, and bring to life their custom-built process systems. You will work on multiple projects simultaneously, take ownership of the controls scope, and play a key role in commissioning equipment at customer sites.

This is a hands‑on engineering position for someone who enjoys building systems, solving technical challenges, and seeing projects through from concept to startup.

• Develop automation solutions for proprietary process and manufacturing equipment
• Program PLC and HMI systems using Siemens TIA Portal
• Design control logic, sequences, alarms, and operator interfaces
• Test, simulate, and debug software prior to deployment
• Lead on‑site commissioning and startup of equipment at customer facilities
• Serve as the technical point of contact for controls within each project
• Review project documentation and technical specifications
• Create operating manuals and technical documentation
• Train customer operators and maintenance personnel

• Degree or technical certification in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
• Strong experience with Siemens PLCs and TIA Portal (or Allen Bradley with good exposure to Siemens)
• Ability to manage multiple smaller projects in parallel
• Independent, reliable, and structured working style
• Willingness to travel for on‑site commissioning
• Prior experience in controls, automation, or commissioning is a plus
