Due to continued growth, our client, an internationally active, innovative plant engineering company is looking for a Controls Engineer (Programming and Commissioning) in Charlotte, NC. Their success is built on strong engineering expertise, reliability, and long-term partnerships and they serve customers in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and food industries.
As the Controls Engineer (Programming & Commissioning), you will design, program, and bring to life their custom-built process systems. You will work on multiple projects simultaneously, take ownership of the controls scope, and play a key role in commissioning equipment at customer sites.
This is a hands‑on engineering position for someone who enjoys building systems, solving technical challenges, and seeing projects through from concept to startup.
What You Will Do- Develop automation solutions for proprietary process and manufacturing equipment
- Program PLC and HMI systems using Siemens TIA Portal
- Design control logic, sequences, alarms, and operator interfaces
- Test, simulate, and debug software prior to deployment
- Lead on‑site commissioning and startup of equipment at customer facilities
- Serve as the technical point of contact for controls within each project
- Review project documentation and technical specifications
- Create operating manuals and technical documentation
- Train customer operators and maintenance personnel
- Degree or technical certification in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- Strong experience with Siemens PLCs and TIA Portal (or Allen Bradley with good exposure to Siemens)
- Ability to manage multiple smaller projects in parallel
- Independent, reliable, and structured working style
- Willingness to travel for on‑site commissioning
- Prior experience in controls, automation, or commissioning is a plus
