ZACHRY GROUP is currently looking for a talented and self‑motivated Sr Piping Drafter in our Charlotte, NC office. This is a great opportunity to get involved in some interesting and challenging design projects within the Power and/or Energy & Chemicals Industries.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare plot plans, equipment location drawings, flow diagrams, Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and other related engineering/design drawings
  • Create CAD drawings (Isometrics and Piping Plans) from designer layouts or sketches
  • Incorporate/Backdraft comments on drawings based on designer/checker comments
  • Translate design sketches, layouts, and notes into construction drawings
  • Ability to add details to piping documents based on P&IDs including understanding construction and process driven notes.
  • Create detailed design drawings with detailed bill of materials
  • Cut plans/sections and support annotation of complex 2D deliverables
  • Prepare detailed tie in lists with field notes and P&IDs and minimal direction
  • Review changes and be able to provide input to Leads/Supervisors
  • Ability to do detailed valve take offs from P&IDs
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or Associates Degrees with drafting courses
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in drafting or similar role
  • Basic knowledge of drawing information as it relates to dimensions and scales
  • Basic knowledge of piping deliverable content (plot plan, piping plans, general arrangements, isometrics)
  • Ability to help with general photo annotation
  • Basic understanding of rev. control and document status
  • Advanced knowledge of P&IDs and MFDs
  • Advanced knowledge of Piping Deliverables
  • Advanced knowledge of and efficient use of AutoCAD
  • Ability to use various piping tracking tools
  • Understanding of how standard pipe supports are detailed and used and how supports on pipe and steel structures work together
  • Understanding of standard pipe components and how they differ from specialty items (SP)
  • Understanding of fitting dimensional make up for small bore and large bore
  • Understanding of mechanical connections and associated hardware/components
  • Basic understanding on major process equipment and typical inline instrumentation
  • Understanding of the entire piping design and check print process
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks, manage priorities, and work with multiple Clients’ CAD standards
  • Understanding of drawing holds and why they are used
  • Commitment to quality, responsibility, high work standards, and initiatives
  • Strong communication skills (verbally, Teams/Skype, email) required to provide effective inter-discipline, client, vendor, and construction coordination on projects
  • Availability for field assignments involving travel to sites involving work in industrial facilities
  • Highly motivated with ability to work in an interactive and open team environment
  • Self-starter with initiative and ability to complete deliverables and tasks with minimal supervision
  • Basic ability to effectively use Microsoft Suite
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in two or more industries refining, power, gas/midstream, chemical, petrochemical, food and beverage, etc.
Physical Demands

Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, Microsoft TEAMS, use of arm/hand steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. May be required to lift, carry and move objects safely.

Work Environment

Employee will work in multiple environments including an office, trailer or building on construction sites. On construction sites, noise levels will be moderate to high. Job sites may contain the following: light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools, people standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking. Noise levels vary and may include bells, whistles, and alarms.
