Thomas & Hutton provides consulting services including Civil, Environmental, Structural, Marine Engineering, Land Surveying, Land Planning, Landscape Architecture, GIS, and Construction Administration.

Survey Crew Chiefs supervise crews of two or more people, directing work and making high-impact decisions while performing the same technical duties as other crew members. The role requires physical and mental challenge across varied conditions.

• Direct and supervise survey crews.
• Make high-impact supervisory decisions.
• Perform technical survey tasks as needed.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3+ years experience as a Survey Crew Chief preferred; prior boundary and topographic survey experience required.
• Experience with ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, construction staking, and Carlson SurvCE software is a plus.

• A valid driver’s license is required; driving is a primary responsibility.
• Working knowledge of data collectors, robotic total stations, GPS equipment, and digital levels.
• Regular four‑day schedule 6:30 AM – 5:30 PM Monday – Thursday.
• Strong math, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Preparation of detailed survey field notes and sketches.
• Ability to perform strenuous physical activity across temperatures and environments.
• Occasional overnight travel.

• Work in environments containing venomous snakes and insects (ticks, red bugs, wasps, bees, hornets, yellow jackets).
• Stand for long periods.
• Work across a wide range of temperatures.
• Climb hills and walk long distances.
• Traverse different types of terrain.
• Lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
• Interact verbally and written.
