Storm Water Hydraulics EIT/Designer

Charlotte, NC

As a designer in HDR’s Transportation Business Group, you’ll develop stormwater and hydraulics solutions for highways, railroads, transit systems, airports, bridges, and drainage systems. This role focuses on design, analysis, permitting, and construction support for local and federal projects.

• Assist multiple project engineers in applying design, engineering, and modeling techniques for transportation and water resource projects.
• Work independently on small projects or support senior engineers on larger projects.
• Conduct site studies, prepare design drawings, EDM/ BIM/CAD for construction documents.
• Execute hydrologic and hydraulic evaluations, calculations, and stormwater management facility design.
• Produce drainage maps, floodplain impact analyses, and cost estimates.
• Support construction phase implementation and assist with technical memos and reports.

• EIT certification preferred; non‑certified designers will receive a Designer title and will be expected to obtain certification.
• Adaptability to fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environments.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Proficient in MS Office, Micro Station, AutoCAD, and highway/road engineering software (e.g., Bentley Concept Station, Open Roads Designer, Autodesk Infraworks, Civil3D).
• Experience in drainage design for highway/roadway projects, permitting, and construction documentation.
• Desire to work in an employee‑owned culture and in an office setting.
• Local to North Carolina candidates preferred.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
