This Role
Carrier is seeking an experienced and dependable 1st Shift Supervisor to oversee daily operations in our engineering laboratories. This role is responsible for leading test teams, troubleshooting chillers, and collaborating with process partners to ensure high productivity and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in testing and troubleshooting water‑ and air‑cooled commercial chillers, as well as maintaining a safe and efficient lab environment.
Key Responsibilities Lab Operations- Supervise technicians by providing technical leadership and coordinating test and validation activities to ensure quality outcomes.
- (Equal to) Lead and organize test teams to conduct water‑cooled and air‑cooled chiller testing.
- Set up and operate instrumentation including Yokogawa systems, RTDs, and other relevant tools for chiller testing.
- Maintain a strong understanding of calibration processes and AHRI standards.
- Promoteinding and.ensure lab safety, EHS compliance, and equipment uptime.
- Coordinate jsonify with vendors and maintenance teams to ensure instrumentation is fully operational, report breakdowns and support preventive maintenance initiatives.
- Participate in weekly stakeholder reviews to align on test schedules and deliverables, and present test reports during customer witness events.
- Document and report issues, delays, and corrective actions.
- Track and report test status, issue resolution, shift turnover effectiveness, and test pad efficiency.
- Build and maintain high‑performing teams through hiring, training, and retention strategies.
- Collaborate seamlessly with peers to manage workload during peak periods.
- Drive operational visibility and demonstrate the lab’s value proposition through clear communication and reporting.
- High School Diploma / GED.
- 5+ years of experience in HVAC lab operations.
- 2+ years of experience working with precise measurement systems (electrical, temperature, pressure, flow).
- 2+ years of experience with electrical troubleshooting and power panel operations.
- Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and equipment manuals.
- Hands‑on experience in manufacturing and production lines (building, wiring, brazing, testing chillers).
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and test instruments.
- Experience with performance or factory acceptance testing for commercial equipment.
- Knowledge of hydronic pumping systems, cooling towers, boilers, and medium‑voltage industrial power supplies.
- Familiarity with Lab Pro (Lab View) applications.
- Hands‑on role requiring frequent standing, lifting (up to 50 lbs), climbing ladders, and working around moving mechanical equipment.
- Exposure to temperature variations, refrigerants, compressed gases, and other lab‑specific conditions.
- Occasional after‑hours or weekend work may be required to support critical maintenance schedules.
