Role Summary
A Mercy Students Resident helps Mercy accomplish its mission by partnering with parents to raise the next generation of disciples who love God, love each other, and love our world. In addition to participating in the Residency Cohort, a Student Resident is responsible for assisting the Student Pastor in overseeing Mercy Church’s Student Ministry (grades 6-12). This includes helping oversee the culture and vision of Mercy Student Ministry while working closely with the Student Pastor to ensure that the ministry is properly developed and supported at each campus.
ResidencyResponsibilities
- Residency Cohort
- Attending all required residency cohorts (bi-weekly, except during the summer).
- Completing all required assignments, readings, and writing assignments.
- Working alongside other residents to complete final projects once a semester.
- Support-Raising
- Maintaining a healthy support raising status
- 75% is required to do part-time work with their ministry team.
- 90% is required to do full-time work with their ministry team.
- Maintaining the relationship with their support team through monthly support updates.
- Development and Discernment
- Constantly learning and helping lead alongside their direct supervisor in their designated ministry.
- Committing to being developed, evaluated, and receiving regular feedback.
- Create and regularly update a personal growth plan.
- Meaningfully contribute to the development of a clear and effective strategy to partner with families at Mercy Church across multiple campuses
- Assist the Student Pastor in providing direction, oversight, and spiritual care for:
- Parents
- Middle and High School Students
- Volunteers
- Meet with students for informal discipleship
- Meet with volunteers to empower and equip them as leaders within the ministry
- Occasionally prepare sermons or devotions to teach God’s Word to students and/or volunteers
- Collaborate with Mercy Students Team in the planning, leadership and execution of student events (Small Groups, Hangouts, Mercy Students Live, Camp, Fall Retreat, Etc.).
- Assist Student Pastor with various projects as needed.
- Meaningfully connect new students and families to student ministry at each service on Sunday mornings.
- Creatively and strategically build relationships with the schools surrounding each Mercy Church campus
- Provide critical feedback to support the implementation and evaluation of an effective plan and strategy for disciple-making and leadership development within Mercy Students.
- A Mercy Church Resident should be teachable and always exhibit professionalism, conscientious work ethic, and accountability.
- A Mercy Church Resident needs to be willing and able to adapt quickly to changing circumstances, with composure and flexibility.
The hours for this position are expected to be approximately 40 hours per week. As one church that meets in several locations, there are several times throughout the year that Mercy Church holds church-wide events in order to do whatever it takes to reach all people. All staff members are expected to serve at these church-wide events, regardless of the positions they hold.
Such events include, but are not limited to Easter services, Good Friday services, All-Church-Gathering, and Christmas services. Specific expectations will be communicated in advance of each event.
