Overview
The Sociology Faculty is a full-time, 9-month position located primarily on the Old Charlotte Highway ( OCH ) Campus in Monroe, NC with a start date for Fall 2026. The interview process is expected to occur in March/April. To ensure consideration, please apply by March 15.
Under the direction of the Department Chair for Business, Education, and Social Sciences. This individual has responsibility for teaching and learning, curriculum development, assessment, continuous improvement, advising, professional development, institutional service, and community relations.

Responsibilities- Exhibit an uncompromising commitment to SPCC as a learning-centered college through the College’s mission, vision, values, core skills and learning outcomes, and delivery of instruction and services
- Develop learning strategies, syllabi, and curriculum that will promote successful teaching and learning
- Facilitate learning through classroom activities, distance learning experiences, and out-of-classroom activities
- Assess and return student work with feedback in a timely manner
- Inform students of their grades and progress in the course
- Maintain regular office hours on campus
- Actively participate in continuous improvement planning through the assessment of learning outcomes at the course and program levels
- Create, select, and use appropriate learning materials and resources, including textbooks, and library resources, which meet college accessibility guidelines
- Stay current with developments in the field of technology and learning theory
- Develop and implement long- and short-range plans
- Participate in institutional, advisory, and program/instruction committees, campus activities, and representation of the college in the community, as needed
- Continue professional development for the improvement of self and the program
- Accept teaching assignments, based on the needs of the college, at one or more of the following: L.L. Polk campus (Polkton), Old Charlotte Highway campus (Monroe), or in community locations (Anson and/or Union counties)
- Accept teaching assignments scheduled during the day, evening, weekends, or online
- Participate in student recruitment, retention, advising, and registration activities
- Participate in or support the mentoring process, the SPCC Foundation, and grant identification, preparation, implementation, and evaluation
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor, the dean, or the Vice President of Academic Affairs
- Master’s degree in the teaching discipline or a completed Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Working knowledge/utilization of Microsoft Office products
- Familiarity with a learning management system such as Canvas
- Academic teaching experience, preferably in higher education
- Demonstrated innovation within the field of education
