Note:
This is a one (1) week assignment for the week of June 15-19 - Pay Rate: $1300
- Develop engaging, well-organized lesson plans for a five-day camp, incorporating active and experiential learning.
- Differentiate lessons for a wide range of abilities in grades 9th-12th.
- Create a comprehensive list of necessary supplies and ensure approval for a supply stipend.
- Maintain a positive and supportive environment for campers.
- Blend education with fun through dynamic teaching strategies.
- Address and resolve conflicts or disciplinary issues effectively, keeping the Program Director informed.
- Lead camp activities with the support of Camp Counselors.
- Participate in a mandatory live online training session conducted via Zoom.
- Cultivate a positive, patient, and enthusiastic demeanor, emphasizing a dedicated commitment to fostering a supportive environment for children and youth.
- Exhibit professionalism, accountability, and adept interpersonal skills consistently when interacting with campers, fellow staff members, and parents.
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills when engaging with staff, parents, and campers to ensure clarity and build positive relationships.

The Science of Beauty — Discover the intersection of science and self-expression at The Science of Beauty Camp. This week-long experience for high school students explores chemistry, biology, and innovation behind products and techniques used in cosmetology and skincare. Campers will explore how science shapes beauty, understanding ingredients and formulas, and how products interact with skin, hair, and the environment. Through hands-on learning, experiments, and creative exploration, students will see how chemistry, design, and health come together in beauty and personal care.
Minimum Experience/Education
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Experience teaching and/or mentoring youth, teens, or young adults
- Experience working with children in grades 9th-12th
- Demonstrated experience in effective communication with parents and families
- Proficiency in conflict resolution strategies
- Must pass a criminal background check and complete Youth Protection Training with an 80% or higher prior to starting assignment
- Availability for mandatory orientation training before the camp season
- Knowledge and/or training in the content area of the camp
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
- First Aid/CPR certification
- NC teaching licensure
- Background working in a Summer Camp environment
- Proficiency in utilizing advanced features of the Google Suite
- Independently use stairs for safe evacuation during emergencies.
- Exhibit maturity, responsibility, accountability, creativity, patience, and enthusiasm.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills and a passion for working with minors.
Temporary staff employees are ineligible to receive benefits (leave, health coverage, State service credit, etc.). They are covered by Worker's Compensation provisions. Non-permanent employees may be eligible for the High Deductible Health Plan under certain conditions described in university policy.
Special Notes Regarding Eligibility for the High Deductible Health Plan:
Temporary hourly workers (FTE-based) may be eligible for HDHP;
Temporary salaried workers may be offered HDHP as well.
