Responsibilities
If you love helping student-athletes grow—on the court and in the classroom—this role is for you. As our Assistant Tennis Coach, you’ll be a trusted partner to the Head Coach and a steady presence for our teams. You’ll shape daily training, support academic progress, coordinate travel and events, and welcome recruits and families to our program. You’ll also build meaningful connections—with student-athletes, alumni, and the broader campus community—while representing JCSU with pride in the NCAA and CIAA.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Coach & support: Help manage and supervise the women’s and men’s tennis programs; assist with recruitment.
- Student-athlete success: Monitor academic progress, encourage persistence to graduation, and assist with placements at four-year institutions.
- Team operations: Coordinate and care for equipment/uniforms; maintain inventory; ensure facility security; supervise athletes during practices/activities.
- Health & safety: Facilitate physical exam paperwork; coordinate injury management with training staff.
- Compliance & admin: Assist with certified rosters, award forms, season records, inventories, travel requests/authorizations/expenses, requisitions, and related documentation.
- Contracts & travel: Prepare game contracts; plan and process team travel for both programs.
- Events & outreach: Support pre-event logistics, setup, and post-event wrap-up; engage alumni, donors, and the public; assist with external communications (mailings, email, and phone outreach).
- Campus collaboration: Work closely with staff, faculty, and students across the university.
- Other duties as needed to advance program goals.
- Student-centered and team-minded, with a steady, encouraging coaching presence.
- Organized and logistics-strong, comfortable juggling schedules, gear, travel, and forms.
- Clear and personable, able to build trust with student-athletes, colleagues, alumni, and partners.
- Accountable and compliance-savvy, with reliable follow-through from planning to post-event wrap-up.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in sports, or a related field. Must demonstrate, intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Office, Teams, Excel, and word. Excellent oral and written communication skills are also required. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds is an essential skill. Must be able to prioritize work to meet multiple deadlines with minimal supervision.
Familiarity with NCAA Compliance Assistant, Front Rush, or related system is preferred.
- Master’s Degree
- Three years’ experience working with college age athletes.
- Three years’ experience NCAA and CIAA policies.
- Three years’ experience in recruiting collegiate athletes at the NCAA level.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit student-athletes with potential for academic and athleticsuccess.
