Description of Work

Job responsibilities and essential functions for Tenured and Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of departmental and collegiate goals. Responsibilities typically include:

  • Teaching, Advising, Curriculum and Instructional Development: course design, presentation, advising and consultation, directing student research, curriculum development, and grading.
  • Scholarly Research, Creative Activities, and Other Professional

    Activities:

    conducting research or engaging in creative activities to expand the knowledge base, publish, sustain an ongoing research agenda, and seek extramural funding where appropriate.
  • Service to University, the Public, and the Profession: engage in service appropriate to the discipline (administration/governance, public service, and professional service).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The successful applicant will have experience in modern power systems with priority given to candidates in power and energy research, especially related to protective relaying, operational technology (OT) integration, AI integration, and cybersecurity for modern power systems. The candidate will:

  • Leverage EPIC's state-of-the-art test facilities, including real-time simulators and OT testbeds in the Duke Energy Smart Grid Laboratory.
  • Develop a funded research program that complements multidisciplinary power and transformational energy research within EPIC.

Minimum Experience/

Education:

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education,

Skills and Experience:

Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; demonstrated ability as an effective teacher at undergraduate and graduate levels; excellent verbal and written communication skills; willingness to collaborate with a team of tenured faculty, research faculty, research staff, and students.

Necessary

Licenses/Certifications:

Hires at the rank of Associate Professor are expected to have demonstrated success in obtaining extramural research funding, supervising/mentoring graduate students, and teaching.
