Primary Purpose of Department: The Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at UNC Charlotte share a mission to advance education, research, and innovation in power and energy. They develop human and intellectual resources to address the technological challenges of modern energy production, distribution, and sustainability, driving progress through academic excellence and industry collaboration.

• Teaching, Advising, Curriculum and Instructional Development: course design, presentation, advising and consultation, directing student research, curriculum development, and grading.

The successful applicant will have experience in modern power systems with priority given to candidates in power and energy research, especially related to protective relaying, operational technology (OT) integration, AI integration, and cybersecurity for modern power systems. The candidate will:

• Leverage EPIC's state-of-the-art test facilities, including real-time simulators and OT testbeds in the Duke Energy Smart Grid Laboratory.
• Develop a funded research program that complements multidisciplinary power and transformational energy research within EPIC.

Minimum Experience/

Education:

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education,

Skills and Experience:

Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; demonstrated ability as an effective teacher at undergraduate and graduate levels; excellent verbal and written communication skills; willingness to collaborate with a team of tenured faculty, research faculty, research staff, and students.

Necessary

Licenses/Certifications:

Hires at the rank of Associate Professor are expected to have demonstrated success in obtaining extramural research funding, supervising/mentoring graduate students, and teaching.
