Position: Veterinary Assistant Instructor, Part-Time (Continuing Education)

Overview

The Veterinary Assistant Instructor provides high-quality instruction in veterinary assisting in accordance with approved curriculum and instructional standards. This position delivers classroom and hands-on laboratory instruction, supervises students in learning and testing environments, and evaluates student performance to support skill development and workforce readiness. The Instructor maintains required professional credentials, remains current with veterinary practices and regulations, and contributes to curriculum review and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain all required certifications and credentials for the position and remain current with applicable rules, regulations, and professional practices.
  • Prepare, teach, and deliver assigned courses in accordance with approved course syllabi and instructional standards.
  • Develop, review, and update course syllabi and instructional materials on a regular basis; recommend and assist with curriculum revisions as appropriate.
  • Create and maintain an effective learning environment that supports diverse learning styles and utilizes appropriate teaching methods.
  • Supervise students in classroom and testing environments to ensure a safe, productive, and respectful learning atmosphere.
  • Administer and supervise examinations; grade assessments; record and maintain accurate student performance data; and utilize formative and summative assessment techniques to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Receive, review, process, file, and submit required academic and administrative documentation, including attendance records, grade sheets, registration materials, payroll documentation, and other related reports.
  • Maintain accurate registration, attendance, and payroll records for all courses taught.
  • Identify and report instructional material, equipment, and operating supply needs to the CE Business & Workforce Licensure Director.
  • Assist in maintaining classroom environments that emphasize safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student, instructor, and staff information in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA); consistently monitor work areas to ensure data protection.

Minimum Qualifications

Credentialed Veterinary Professional certification required

Preferred Qualifications

Two years of instructional experience with adult learners preferred

Work Environment

Combination of classroom, laboratory, and clinical simulation environments designed to support hands-on instructional activities. Instruction may occur in lecture rooms, veterinary labs, or other specialized training spaces that include animal-handling equipment, instructional tools, and clinical supplies. The position involves regular interaction with students, staff, and administrators in a professional educational setting. The work environment may include exposure to animals, animal-related allergens, cleaning and disinfecting agents, and typical veterinary clinical conditions.

Emphasis is placed on safety, proper use of equipment, infection control, confidentiality, and compliance with FERPA and institutional policies.

Physical Demands
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and sitting during instructional, laboratory, and testing activities.
  • Frequent use of hands and arms to demonstrate techniques, operate instructional equipment, and handle tools and materials.
  • Ability to lift, move, or restrain animals and/or instructional equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
  • Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively with students in classroom, lab, and testing environments.
  • Ability to maintain physical stamina and focus while supervising students and ensuring a safe instructional environment.
Normal Working Hours

This is a part-time, as-needed position. Work hours are based on course schedules, enrollment, and program needs and may vary by semester. Assignments may include day, evening, or weekend classes, as well as additional hours for course preparation, grading, student supervision, and required meetings or training. Hours are not guaranteed and may fluctuate in accordance with institutional and programmatic needs.
