Position: Teacher, Middle Grades Language Arts/ Part Time/ (25-26)

Overview

English Language Arts Teacher (Grades K-6).

Note:

This is a Part Time (0.5) Position - Possible Full Time.

South Academy of International Languages (SAIL) seeks a passionate and dedicated English Language Arts (ELA) teacher to inspire and support elementary students in grades K-5. At SAIL, we provide a full language immersion experience where students learn core curriculum content in Chinese, French, German, or Japanese. ELA instruction complements and supports the immersion experience by strengthening literacy, communication, and critical thinking skills in English.

We welcome candidates who are enthusiastic about student growth, inclusive practices, and collaboration. The ideal teacher will prioritize students’ holistic development while delivering a meaningful and engaging ELA curriculum.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned ELA instruction for students in grades K-5.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes participation, creativity, and critical thinking.
  • Collaborate with immersion teachers to reinforce reading, writing, and communication skills across languages.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including English language learners and students with exceptionalities.
  • Assess student progress regularly and use data (including MTSS frameworks) to guide instructional decisions and targeted interventions.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and communicate regularly with families about student growth and academic goals.
  • Participate in professional development and collaborate with colleagues to continuously improve teaching practice.
  • Contribute to the school community by participating in staff meetings, committees, and school events.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • North Carolina teaching license or eligibility for licensure.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and multilingual school environment.

  • Familiarity with North Carolina ELA standards and assessment tools is preferred.

General

Definition of Work

The middle school teacher, under moderate supervision, performs instructional work with limited decision-making discretion, providing leadership in the educational environment that encourages and nurtures learning for all students. The teacher supervises, monitors, and evaluates students while developing lesson plans to ensure all student needs are met. Employee performs school-based work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the principal.

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.

Essential Functions

  • Assist school administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure. Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
  • Create a culture of effectiveness by setting high standards and expectations for all students
  • Plan and implement a program of study in the assigned content area that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of assigned students
  • Instruct students individually and in groups using various teaching methods
  • Create a classroom environment that provides for student engagement in the learning process and enables students to achieve learning objectives
