Southside Virginia Community College is seeking a Cashier & Admissions Specialist for the John H. Daniel Campus in Keysville, VA. This position supports both the Cashiering and Admissions departments and serves as an important point of contact for students throughout their enrollment experience.
Organizational Objective:
To accurately account for the College's funds received in a timely manner while providing exceptional service to a diverse student, staff and community population; to verify and process student data/enrollment and to serve as administrative support to the Admissions and Records Office, providing data management processing of information for auto program placements and applications received.
- Serve as campus cashier to collect state, local, and federal funds over the counter, by mail, and/or electronically in an accurate and timely manner while providing excellent customer service; responsible for receipting and depositing all monies, state and local, received
- Record payments on student and third-party accounts daily as received
- Provide local funds account support to include account coding, keying, and printing checks
- Perform due diligence and management of unclaimed checks issued from state and local funds
- Respond to all questions and concerns regarding student accounts in a clear, accurate, and timely manner
- Serve as an Admissions Specialist to offer accurate and timely processing of student records and assistance to faculty, staff, and administrators as needed
- Provide prompt, courteous, efficient service in guiding prospective students through the admissions process from initial inquiry through enrollment
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications- Professional communication, critical and analytical thinking skills
- Adept at managing tasks and balancing priorities
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment while providing excellent customer service in a timely and accurate manner
- Intermediate computer skills to include Microsoft Office and Google Suite
- Ability to work as an effective member of a team
- Experience working with racially, ethnically, economically, and age-diverse individuals
- Demonstrated exceptional experience in cashiering and customer service
- Experience working with spreadsheets
- Ability to handle confidential information, use professional discretion, and exercise ethical conduct
- Previous experience working with People Soft or a similar student registration software program
- Working knowledge of basic accounting principles
- Previous accounting experience
- Relevant experience in higher education or with a Virginia state agency
