Overview
Assistant, Teacher K‑3 (25‑26 SY) role at Charlotte‑Mecklenburg Schools. Working under the supervision of a teacher or principal, K‑3 teacher assistants provide additional assistance and instruction to students. They assist the teacher in achieving the standards and objectives of excellence set by the district and create a classroom environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional programs, curriculum, and technology materials.
The position performs a variety of instructional and classroom‑management supports and completes clerical tasks to support teachers.
- Assist children individually or in small groups to master assignments and reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
- Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, gymnasiums, or on field trips.
- Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
- Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.
- Observe students’ performance and record relevant data to assess progress.

- Completion of an Associate’s Degree OR two years of higher education equivalent to 48 credit hours OR ability to pass a formal assessment (Workkey and 96 hours of in‑service training) OR completion of the NC DOL Apprenticeship Program OR completion of the NC ATA Professional Development Plan.
