Coordinator, Media / 25‑26 – Charlotte‑Mecklenburg Schools
SummaryProvides leadership, professional development and teaching in support of all students. Focus is on instructional resources and services for implementation of a school library media program that serves an integral part of a student‑centered educational process and helps prepare students for a globally competitive world.
Responsibilities- Align teaching with the NC Standard Course of Study and the NC Information and Technology Skills
- Model, coach and collaborate with teachers on inquiry, problem‑based learning, digital citizenship, literacy, evaluation of resources and research process
- Empower students as readers/writers, creators and innovators in a welcoming, collaborative and personalized learning environment
- Build instructional and community partnerships to enhance teaching and learning
- Plan and facilitate personalized professional development in literacy, digital learning, personalized learning and resource access
- Model data‑driven decision making under the guidance of school leadership, continuously improving use of technology and library media programs
- Work closely with school leadership and professional learning communities (PLCs) to encourage data‑driven decision making supporting student achievement and growth
- Collaborate with school leadership to design and implement long‑range plans balancing teaching, literacy, digital learning, collaboration, collection development, and program management
- Develop a vision for implementation of the Digital Learning Plan and the NC Digital Learning competencies for the school
- Organize the media center and resources to support the school’s mission, goals and objectives and maximize intellectual and physical access
- Implement an ongoing collection development and evaluation process using data in collaboration with the Media and Technology Advisory Committee, focusing on diverse formats and resources that meet learning needs
- Advocate the principles of intellectual freedom, copyright and digital citizenship
- Serve on leadership teams such as School Leadership, Instructional Leadership Team and the Media and Technology Advisory Committee
- Lead, with the principal, in the ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of the school’s digital learning media programs
- Collaborate and/or lead additional projects as directed by the principal
- Prepare and submit accurate reports for the NC Digital Learning Materials Inventory (NCDLMI) as directed
- Perform related duties as assigned
- Master’s degree in Library Science
- Licensed by NCDPI as a school library media coordinator (076)
- Knowledge of curriculum development, management, technology integration and leadership
- Knowledge of K‑12 curriculum including NC Essential Standards and AASL Standards for the 21st Century Learner
- Knowledge of current trends, methods and developments in school media and instructional technology, online and blended learning, pedagogy and strategies
- Knowledge of library media terminology and appropriate use of media/technology to enhance instruction and achievement
- Knowledge of the principles of organization and administration
- Knowledge of policies, procedures and standards regarding education
- Knowledge of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study
- Ability to custom‑design instruction based upon student achievement data
- Ability to identify and evaluate new and emerging technologies
- Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and statistics and develop meaningful reports from that information
- Ability to develop budgets for program implementation
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by work assignments
- Demonstrated knowledge of technology tools and software programs, including cloud‑based solutions
- Compliance with confidentiality requirements in local, state and federal policies and statutes
- Demonstrates professional integrity through ethical behavior
