The Vice President of Clinical Network Development and Affiliations provides strategic and operational leadership for the growth, performance, and integration of NHE provider affiliation capabilities and advances Novant Health’s strategic priorities by supporting affiliated large practices. The executive is responsible for identifying, sourcing, structuring, and integrating physician alignment opportunities—including acquisitions, affiliations, and partnerships—that advance the organization’s strategic objectives. The VP serves as the primary executive liaison between the system and its large affiliated or employed physician groups—fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence in patient‑centered care.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Work closely with the SVP Chief Clinical Strategy Officer and other System Physician Executives to develop processes and functions to support collaboration with community provider partnerships across all markets of Novant Health.
- Set enterprise‑level strategy for NHE provider affiliations, develop new models and strategies for private practices to engage and affiliate with NHE, and define key markets and institutes to prioritize for affiliations.
- Develop and manage a pipeline of physician group opportunities, including direct outreach, relationship cultivation, and market intelligence gathering.
- Partner with senior leadership, legal, and finance teams to evaluate, structure, and negotiate deals involving practice acquisitions, joint ventures, and other affiliation models.
- Define structure and models for true community private practice relationships.
- Develop negotiation team and contract templates with Novant Health Legal and other system executives to ensure alignment with traditional employment models within NHMG.
- Build and maintain a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) function to curate, track, and report all discussions with private practices, and regularly report progress to NHE, market leadership and other Novant Health executives.
- Conduct financial modeling and support operational integration models for private practice MSO services.
- Create affiliation approaches that account for all NHE markets, including multi‑state alignment with strategic initiatives.
- Collaborate with key leaders (Market Presidents, Market COOs, Institute Leadership) at critical junctures in the affiliation process to cultivate relationships, convert potential affiliates, and integrate newly acquired practices into NHMG.
- Provide strategic guidance and operational support to large practice groups to support growth and development aligned with Novant Health’s long‑term priorities.
- Oversee large practice network, managing provider contracts, credentialing, privileging processes, budgets, resource allocation, and financial performance.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with independent physician practices, fostering collaboration, engagement, and alignment with organizational objectives.
- Ensure effective coordination with NHE MSO services, providing large practices with the resources, tools, and capabilities they need to execute on their strategic priorities.
- Implement performance metrics and quality improvement initiatives across the large practice network to drive outcomes, patient satisfaction, and value‑based care success.
- Define and lead physician engagement strategies outside of Novant Health’s core geographies in partnership with NHE leaders and Novant Health’s broader leadership.
- Education: 4‑Year / Bachelor’s Degree required;
Graduate Degree preferred (MBA, MHA). - Experience: 10+ years in strategic planning, leading and overseeing practice operations, provider affiliations or network services, preferably in a large medical group or health system.
- Additional Skills (required):
- Demonstrated success leading large, multi‑specialty physician enterprises or affiliation programs in a matrixed health system environment.
