Overview
Transplant Surgery APP (Nocturnist) – Surgery – Charlotte, NC. The Transplant Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will join a team of abdominal transplant surgeons and experienced APPs to provide comprehensive clinical care to transplant patients and donors in pre-, peri-, and post-transplant phases. The Nocturnist role focuses on inpatient care for acute and chronically ill patients listed for transplant, perioperative care, and post-transplant care up to 4 months, supporting transplant surgery, transplant nephrology, and transplant hepatology teams.
Shifts are 12 hours, rotating, with weekends and holidays included. 40 hours per week; pay range $57.85 - $86.80 per hour.
- Performs initial and periodic medical histories, physical examinations, and documents findings and plans of care.
- Assist with new consults and admissions; daily assessment of ICU, progressive, and floor patients.
- Determine treatment plans for complex and high-risk transplant patients in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
- Write prescriptions and administer medications; monitor patient status and respond to potential complications.
- Manage assessment and care for acute trauma; respond to emergency conditions as needed.
- Order and interpret daily laboratory and radiology examinations; document encounters in the medical record.
- Attend and contribute to group/practice meetings and development of standard procedures; participate in evidence-based research and publishing initiatives related to transplant care.
- Must have or be eligible for a DEA license; approved to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of practice.
- Eligible for prescriptive authority through the NC Board of Nursing or Medical Board.
- BLS for Healthcare Providers from AHA required (expiration > 90 days from start).
- Physician Assistant:
Graduate from an accredited PA program;
Master’s degree preferred; NCCPA certification preferred.
The role requires critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and make proactive decisions. Prior experience in transplant or perioperative inpatient settings is preferred to independently initiate and follow through on assessments and workups.
