Whether you work at our headquarters in Charlotte, NC, the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, NC, the Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove (BGTC) in Asheville, NC, Blue Ridge Broadcasting (BRB) in Asheville, NC, or a field office abroad, you are part of a team of committed Christians reaching people with the Gospel.

Christian Purpose And Expectations:
All employees proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ through their employment and thereby further BGEA’s religious mission. The Communications Department includes project management, ecommerce, email marketing, advertising, public relations/social media/promotion, creative services (graphic design, content writing/proofing and production), and Decision magazine, our official monthly publication. The department creates print and online content that supports the organization’s mission, negotiates paid and leveraging unpaid promotional placements, and engages supporters with targeted content across channels.

Job Summary:

The Decision Assistant Editor - Print assists in the production of Decision magazine by conceptualizing, developing, reporting, writing and editing material for publication; conducting interviews; and covering and reporting BGEA events.

Ministry Requirements
  • Maintains a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ
  • Faithfully upholds BGEA in prayer
  • Participates in daily BGEA staff devotions, including Bible reading and leading group prayer as schedules permit
  • Demonstrates behavior aligned with BGEA’s Mission Statement, Statement of Faith, Hallmarks, policies, and expectations
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Uses editorial enterprise and concept-development skills to seek evangelical thought leaders as sources in reporting, writing and editing compelling articles about Current Events, Cultural and Theological Issues, BGEA events (e.g., Crusades, Festivals) and related features, ensuring deadlines are met
  • Turns broad concepts into detailed editorial content for the magazine, informing topics aligned with being “The Evangelical Voice for Today” and supporting the work of BGEA
  • Selects and commissions leading evangelical authors to write specific articles for Decision, applying theology and editorial skill to prepare material for publication
  • Assists senior copy editor in making corrections and changes to layouts, in preparation for mock-up and transmission of files to the printing plant
Marginal Duties and Responsibilities
  • May address and respond to customer service questions from readers
  • Edit and/or write special projects
  • Contribute to Decision’s social media accounts
  • Regularly report, write and edit for the Decision website
  • Research and verify facts using journalistic and theological knowledge
  • Proofread and editing responsibilities from first proofs through final corrections
  • May teach at various writing schools across the country
  • Evaluate unsolicited manuscripts
  • Other duties as assigned
Job Specifications Skills and Knowledge
  • Degree in journalism or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Advanced writing and editing skills
  • Ability to work with authors to develop articles
  • Ability to understand theological positions and align manuscripts with the BGEA position
  • Able to present Decision well when meeting with authors and at BGEA events
  • Familiar with the internet and related technology
  • Strong copyediting, grammar and punctuation skills
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to think logically and assess leadership quality
