Construction Administrator
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Construction Administrator to lead and support project activities throughout the construction phase. In this role, you will ensure that work is completed in accordance with contract documents, design intent, and all applicable codes and standards. Acting as a key liaison among the design team, owner, and contractor, you will provide technical expertise, manage construction documentation, and proactively resolve issues in the field.
The ideal candidate has strong construction knowledge, excellent communication skills, and an in‑depth understanding of construction processes and contractual requirements.
Responsibilities
+ Serve as the primary contact for construction-phase communication between the owner, contractor, and design team.
+ Verify that construction activities adhere to approved drawings, specifications, and contractual obligations.
+ Conduct regular site visits to observe progress, identify issues, and document findings.
+ Review, track, and process RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, ASIs, and change orders.
+ Evaluate contractor requests for alignment with contract documents and design intent.
+ Assist with reviewing and certifying monthly payment applications.
+ Maintain organized and accurate records of construction-phase correspondence and documentation.
+ Support project closeout efforts, including punch list creation, coordination, and final documentation review.
+ Review construction documents for constructability, coordination, and clarity.
+ Identify inconsistencies or conflicts in documents and recommend appropriate solutions.
+ Participate in and support QA/QC reviews during both design and construction phases.
+ Provide timely field issue resolution while upholding design integrity and contractual compliance.
+ Coordinate with internal project managers, consultants, and field personnel.
+ Attend construction meetings and prepare meeting minutes or follow-up documentation as needed.
+ Communicate professionally and proactively with all project stakeholders.
+ Identify and elevate risks related to schedule, scope, or cost impacts.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
+ 8-10+ years of experience in construction administration, architecture, engineering, project management, or field construction.
+ Strong understanding of building systems, sequencing, and multidisciplinary trade coordination.
+ Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
+ Familiarity with construction contracts and industry-standard agreements (e.g., AIA documents).
+ Demonstrated experience managing RFIs, submittals, change orders, and payment applications.
+ Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
+ Ability to manage multiple priorities across several concurrent projects.
Preferred
Skills & Qualifications
+
Experience with healthcare, education, senior living, or institutional project types.
+ Previous experience conducting site observations and facilitating field coordination.
+ Knowledge of project scheduling fundamentals and milestone tracking.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
+
Experience with construction documentation or project management platforms.
+ Cost estimating or budget review capabilities are a plus.
Work Environment
This position is based in Charlotte, NC, with a hybrid work arrangement that includes regular site visits. The Charlotte office is shared with an MEP firm and includes one additional architect, creating a highly collaborative environment with significant opportunities for growth. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $140000.00/yr.
