We are seeking an experienced and highly knowledgeable Safety Director to lead all safety, health, and environmental programs across our industrial contracting and industrial general contracting operations. This role is critical to ensuring safe execution of projects involving heavy industrial construction, crane and rigging operations, plant maintenance, mechanical work, and other high‑risk industrial environments. This position will report to our Fort Mill, SC office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety Management & Compliance
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s Safety & Health Program.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA 1910, OSHA 1926, EPA, DOT, and ASME/ANSI crane & rigging standards.
  • Review and update safety policies based on new regulations and industry best practices.
  • Ensure proper fall protection, LOTO, confined space, hot work, scaffolding, and heavy equipment protocols on all industrial worksites.
Field Oversight & Site Inspections
  • Conduct routine jobsite safety audits at industrial facilities and active construction sites.
  • Verify cranes, rigging gear, aerial lifts, and heavy equipment meet all inspection standards.
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance with site safety rules.
  • Identify hazards and implement corrective/preventive actions.
  • Lead investigations of near misses, injuries, property damage, and environmental incidents.
  • Perform root cause analysis using 5-Why, TapRooT, or Fishbone methods.
  • Manage OSHA recordkeeping including 300 Logs and required reporting.
  • Distribute lessons learned across all field teams.
Training & Workforce Development
  • Develop and conduct safety training programs for industrial environments.
  • Ensure crane, rigging, LOTO, fall protection, confined space, and other certifications remain current.
  • Maintain training matrices and compliance tracking.
  • Coordinate with operations on workforce competency and refresher training.
Safety Culture Leadership
  • Lead company-wide safety meetings, toolbox talks, and leadership briefings.
  • Promote a Stop Work Authority culture.
  • Support lift planning, critical lift reviews, and safe equipment mobilization.
  • Integrate safety into daily operations and project planning.
Documentation, Reporting & Recordkeeping
  • Maintain safety manuals, logs, inspection reports, and compliance documents.
  • Manage Avetta, ISNetworld, and customer safety portal requirements.
  • Prepare monthly and annual safety KPI reports including TRIR, near misses, and corrective action closure rates.
Pre-Construction & Project Planning
  • Participate in project kickoff and pre-job planning meetings.
  • Review customer safety requirements and site rules.
  • Assist in developing site-specific safety plans, emergency plans, and lift plans.
Regulatory & Client Interaction
  • Serve as primary contact for OSHA, customers, and third-party auditors.
  • Support customer audits and prequalification processes.
  • Ensure compliance with industrial plant and contractor expectations.
Education

Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Occupational Health, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience preferred.

Experience
  • 7–15+ years of progressive safety experience in industrial contracting or general contracting.
  • Strong background in crane, rigging, heavy equipment, and plant maintenance operations.
  • Experience supporting shutdowns, critical lifts, industrial construction, and mechanical projects.
Certifications
  • CHST – Construction Health & Safety Technician
  • CSP – Certified Safety Professional
  • OHST – Occupational Hygiene & Safety Technician
  • OSHA 30 (General Industry & Construction)
    Required
  • Crane/Rigging knowledge or certifications (NCCCO awareness a plus)
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor
  • OSHA 500
  • Expert understanding of industrial construction risks and controls.
  • Knowledge of crane operations, lift planning, and rigging safety.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze safety data and drive corrective actions.
  • High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
