We are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator with a strong background in paving and asphalt work to join our team. This position is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive estimates for asphalt paving, milling, and grading for site-work projects. NCDOT and Municipality estimating a plus. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and understands the production, materials, and pricing that drive profitable paving operations.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare detailed cost estimates for asphalt paving, milling, patching, and related site-work projects
- Review and interpret plans, specifications, and bid documents
- Perform quantity takeoffs for paving, base, grading, and related scopes
- Solicit and analyze subcontractor and material pricing
- Develop unit pricing and job-specific pricing based on production rates and historical data
- Work closely with project managers and field personnel to validate scope, means, and methods
- Identify potential risks, omissions, and value-engineering opportunities in bid documents
- Maintain organized bid files, takeoffs, and pricing records
- Assist with post-bid reviews and project handoff to operations
- Minimum of 3 years of construction estimating experience, with a strong emphasis on asphalt paving
- Working knowledge of paving operations, materials, and production rates
- Ability to read and interpret civil construction plans and specifications
- Strong math, analytical, and organizational skills
- Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, and digital takeoff tools
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Experience with DOT, municipal, or commercial paving projects preferred
