AboutThe Role
This role is ideal for individuals seeking to refine their skills in testing construction materials, including soil, concrete, asphalt, and other relevant materials, while earning additional industry certifications. As a Construction Materials Engineering Technician, you will spend most of your time outdoors, participating in projects and ensuring their integrity and safety. Your contributions will be recognized as you witness projects come to life and gain valuable expertise.
Responsibilities- Review plans and specs to ensure on‑site testing aligns with project requirements.
- Perform and observe field and lab tests on construction materials to confirm compliance.
- Use advanced tools like Metafield® to record and report testing results.
- Calibrate testing equipment to meet industry standards for accuracy.
- Conduct special inspections to guarantee regulatory compliance and quality.
- Communicate effectively with project teams, contractors, and clients to ensure smooth collaboration and project success.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials.
- Two or more active certifications (examples: ACI Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician; ICC Special Inspector).
- Effective communication skills in spoken, written, and reading English.
- Basic math skills with understanding of weight, volume, pressure, units of measure.
- Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions.
- Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day.
- Lifting and carrying 40–50 lbs routinely (field/lab samples and equipment).
- Maneuvering field equipment safely on uneven ground around active construction sites.
- Shift work hours based on project needs and weather conditions, including early mornings, some Saturdays, and overtime (paid at time and a half).
