Position

Summary

The Critical Home Repair Construction Assistant supports Habitat’s Home Repair Program by performing residential repair work on owner‑occupied homes. This role works closely with staff, volunteers, and homeowners while maintaining Habitat’s standards for safety, quality, partnership, and teamwork.

Required Qualifications (Must‑Haves)
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record - required
  • Dependable transportation to work and job sites

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including homeowners and volunteers
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Willingness and ability to learn residential construction standards and methods
Essential Functions
  • Assist with home repair projects from demolition through final inspections and punch list completion
  • Support all phases of residential repair work under the Habitat Charlotte Home Repair Program
  • Lead, mentor, and support volunteers by providing instruction and encouragement
  • Promote positive relationships with homeowners, volunteers, inspectors, subcontractors, and staff
  • Assist in planning service days to ensure materials, tools, and staffing needs are met
  • Follow Habitat Charlotte’s Approved Methods Construction Manual
  • Maintain Habitat tools and equipment as assigned
  • Complete assigned tasks efficiently and on schedule
  • Demonstrate flexibility, initiative, and a willingness to learn
  • Uphold Habitat’s Code of Conduct and organizational policies
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance
  • Represent Habitat for Humanity in a professional and positive manner
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds unassisted
  • Ability to stand for most or all of the workday
  • Ability to work outdoors year‑round in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding and work at heights
  • Ability to maneuver on roofs, uneven terrain, and in tight spaces or crawlspaces
  • Ability to wear a respirator as needed
Work Environment & Interactions
  • Internal:
    Construction staff and other Habitat employees
  • External:
    Habitat homeowners, volunteers, donors, inspectors, and subcontractors
Additional Information

Hourly Rate: $18.50 per hour

Schedule:

Full‑Time, Monday‑Friday (approximately 7:00 AM–4:00 PM; hours may vary by season, weather, and construction schedule)

Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region program funding often includes federal funding and this role may support federally funded activities.
