Camps on Campus Counselor

Temporary full‑time position (up to 40 hours per week) at UNC Charlotte’s Main Campus during the summer term. Hourly pay: $16.00.

Training and screening requirements:

  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Mandatory orientation training on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
  • Complete mandatory Youth Protection Training and report any suspected abuse promptly.
  • Provide two references, including one from a current or former supervisor.
  • Include the full range of knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, and education on your application (do not write “see resume”).

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, mentor, and actively engage campers in daily activities to foster socialization.
  • Ensure safety and well‑being of all campers, maintaining a disciplined and positive environment.
  • Make independent, time‑sensitive decisions regarding camper safety, behavior, and conflicts.
  • Implement individualized learning and behavior plans for campers with disabilities.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians about camper welfare and disciplinary matters.
  • Assist with camper drop‑off and pick‑up, maintaining an efficient process.
  • Collaborate with fellow camp staff to plan and execute learning activities and events.
  • Contribute ideas for curriculum and facilitate educational activities.
  • Adhere to camp safety protocols and Minors on Campus policies.
  • Support counselors‑in‑training with performance feedback.
  • Assist with transportation safety during field trips and transitions (no driving required).
  • Maintain awareness of camper allergies, medications, and special instructions.
  • Support administrative tasks and ensure accurate record‑keeping for camper activities.

Qualifications and eligibility:

  • Current college student, 18 years of age or older.
  • Experience working with children/youth in group settings.
  • Valid driver’s license (identification only; no driving required).
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be available for mandatory orientation training Saturday, May 30, 2026.
  • Undergraduate student at UNC Charlotte; 3.0 GPA (high school GPA accepted for rising freshmen).
  • Previous experience as a Camp Counselor or Counselor‑in‑Training with Camps on Campus.
  • Skills and traits: maturity, responsibility, composure, initiative, enthusiasm, adaptability, creativity, patience, leadership, interpersonal communication, passion for working with children.

Physical requirements:

  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. and working outdoors in heat during the 8‑week period.
  • Must be physically able to lift campers and assist with loading/unloading.
  • Ability to use stairs for safe evacuation during emergencies.

Other work details:

  • Shift schedule:
    Monday‑Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. (flexible start times).
