Summary
The Fleet Management Division is seeking an Automotive Service Technician to join our award-winning Fleet Management Division. The Automotive Service Technician will be a key member of a dedicated team of ASE Automotive & Light Truck certified technicians, supporting the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.
This position will be responsible for preventive maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of the City and Mecklenburg County’s light and medium duty fleet vehicles at our Atando Ave. maintenance shop. Additional responsibilities include mentoring entry level technicians, troubleshooting complex electronic vehicle systems, and repair of public safety vehicle equipment.

This is a 2nd shift position.
Major Duties And Responsibilities- Performs advanced diagnosis & repair of complex electronically controlled gasoline, automotive diesel, hybrid, electric powertrains, and modern electrical systems that may necessitate the use of computer based diagnostic platforms.
- Performs preventative maintenance inspection and repair to comply with Fleet Management and NCDOT standards.
- Interprets manuals, electrical diagrams and diagnostic software to make needed repairs
- Provides customer service by working with peers and customers as needed.
- Demonstrates the ability and knowledge to identify specific parts, operate tools and equipment needed to provide service.
- Mentors’ other automotive technicians and ensures new technology and repair methods are understood by their team.
- Experience performing automotive service technician work on all types of light and medium duty vehicles.
- Works well without direct supervision.
- Knowledge of the methods, tools and materials used in maintaining & repairing automotive & related equipment.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards & safety precautions of the trade.
- Ability to articulate repair process & procedures to fellow teammates.
- Analyze, evaluate & effectively write diagnosis, recommendations, and work performed to complete work orders.
- Follow oral & written instructions.
- Ability to operate as part of a team.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds of equipment and/or tools.
- Possess or obtain the following licensures within six months (180) days of hire:
- NC Inspection license
- AC Recovery & Recycling License
- May be required to periodically work overtime, alternate shifts, holidays, and weekends.
- Must possess a North Carolina driver s license.
- Ability to attain ASE Master Automobile & Light Truck Technician status within 12 months of hire.
- Ability to pass background and motor vehicle license check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or certification from an accredited technical school, college or manufacturer training certification recognized by ASE.
- At least five years of experience diagnosing & repairing light and medium duty vehicles.
