Position Overview h3>We're seeking a hands‑on Controller to lead the daily accounting operations while building scalable systems and processes. This role will oversee all core accounting functions, manage a 4‑6 person team, and partner closely with leadership on budgeting, compliance, and strategic initiatives. Candidates with experience in construction accounting
, including job costing, progress billing, and revenue recognition
, will be prioritized. This is a high‑visibility director‑level contributor in the organization.
- Lead all accounting operations, including GL, AP/AR, reconciliations, fixed assets, and cash management
- Manage monthly and year‑end close, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Oversee billing cycles, including AIA billing and progress invoicing for job‑based contracts
- Supervise and develop a team of accounting, procurement, and vendor management professionals
- Ensure accurate reporting, compliance with multi‑state licensing/tax requirements, and support audits
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls as volume and complexity scale
- Partner with leadership to drive budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Collaborate with third‑party CPA for state and federal income tax filings
- Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and SOPs
- Support 401(k) administration, insurance renewals, and grant reporting as needed
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, celebrating wins and leading change
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience; construction or job‑costing background strongly preferred
- Proficiency with Quick Books Online
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP, AIA billing, and multi‑state compliance
- Experience managing and developing teams
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and time‑management skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- A strategic thinker who is also comfortable being hands‑on in a lean company
