Job Overview - Accounts Payable Manager - 34015
We are seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Manager to oversee the full AP function in a fast-paced, blue-collar operating environment. This role requires hands-on leadership, strong vendor management skills, and experience supporting field operations, job costing, and high-volume invoice processing. The ideal candidate understands the urgency and complexity of paying vendors accurately and on time to keep projects and operations moving.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage day-to-day accounts payable operations, including invoice processing, coding, approvals, and payment runs
* Oversee high-volume invoices related to materials, subcontractors, freight, equipment, and services
* Ensure accurate coding to general ledger, job cost, and project cost centers
* Lead and develop AP staff; provide training, workload management, and performance feedback
* Partner with field teams, project managers, superintendents, and operations leaders to resolve invoice discrepancies
* Manage vendor relationships and respond to inquiries in a timely, professional manner
* Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and audit requirements
* Support month-end close activities, including AP accruals, prepaid expenses, and reconciliations
* Assist with year-end audit requests and 1099 preparation and filing
* Identify opportunities to improve AP processes, efficiency, and controls
* Maintain organized AP records and documentation
Requirements
* 5+ years of progressive accounts payable experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory or management role
* Experience in a blue-collar, field-driven environment (construction, manufacturing, distribution, logistics, utilities, etc.)
* Strong understanding of job costing, project accounting, or cost-center accounting
* Experience with ERP or accounting systems (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage, Net Suite, Oracle, SAP, or similar)
* Proficient in Microsoft Excel (lookups, pivot tables preferred)
* Knowledge of 1099 reporting requirements
* Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
* Comfortable working cross-functionally with operations and field personnel
Preferred Qualifications
* Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
* Experience supporting audits
* Experience improving AP workflows or implementing process enhancements
