Overview
The Senior Accountant will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the monthly close process for a manufacturing operation. This position is responsible for general ledger accounting, inventory and cost accounting support, financial reporting, and continuous process improvement. The ideal candidate has hands-on manufacturing accounting experience and is comfortable working cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, and plant leadership.
Responsibilities- Prepare and review monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Lead or support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process in accordance with GAAP
- Perform inventory accounting, including:
- Inventory reconciliations
- Cycle count and physical inventory variance analysis
- Support standard costing and cost roll-ups
- Analyze manufacturing variances (material, labor, overhead) and partner with operations to explain results
- Maintain fixed asset schedules, including capitalization, depreciation, and disposals
- Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements and management reporting
- Support annual audit activities, including preparation of audit schedules and responding to auditor inquiries
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and accounting procedures
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy
- Support ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of GAAP and manufacturing accounting principles
- Experience with inventory, standard costing, and variance analysis
- ERP system experience (SAP, Oracle, Net Suite, JD Edwards, or similar)
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas)
- Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ability to meet deadlines
- CPA or CMA (or progress toward certification)
- Experience in a multi-plant or multi-entity manufacturing environment
- Exposure to SOX controls or private equity–backed companies
- Prior experience supporting audits and cost accounting functions
- Accurate and timely month-end close
- Clean balance sheet reconciliations
- Clear understanding of inventory and cost drivers
- Strong partnership with operations and plant leadership
- Continuous improvement in accounting processes and controls
